First Field Trip!

First and foremost, let me start by saying WE LOVE OUR SCHOOL. They are always working hard to teach the kids not only about academics, but also about having strong moral values and thinking about more than just themselves. That being said, on to the story….

Location: Publix John’s Creek (yes, the grocery store)

Date: November 20, 2015

Miabella is SO excited she got to go on her FIRST EVER field trip on a REAL school bus!

As it was the week before Thanksgiving, the kids had been talking about the word generosity and what it means to be generous. They discussed it every day at school and we continued the conversation in our home. For the entire month of November, the school was holding a can food drive to allow the families and children to practice being generous and giving food to those in need for the holidays.

In the theme of the month, this field trip required the children in her class to do extra chores around the house to earn money they could bring in to school and add to the class funds. Miabella opted for taking on the responsibility of sweeping the kitchen, feeding the dog and clearing all the plates off the table to earn her allowance. Once it was time for the field trip, the class pooled all of their hard earned money and took it to the market to buy food for the can food drive! This trip not only taught Mia about giving to others, but also taught her to be extremely generous by using the money she earned herself to do so!

Miabella was BEYOND excited to participate in this trip. It’s all she talked about for the entire week before, and also counted down ‘how many sleeps’ until the big day. The night before the field trip, she said she couldn’t sleep since she was so excited and woke up bright and early ready to run out the door. Not only was this her first field trip, but it was also her first time on a school bus!

Highlights according to Mia:

  • Riding on a school bus next to her best friend Olivia –  “It was loud and bumpy and had really big windows!”
  • They got to push TWO carts for the cans! One for the boys and one for the girls. According to Miabella, the girls had way more than the boys!
  • The class was able to buy 250 cans of food! All that hard work paid off!
